KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — The number of evacuees in the flood-hit states continued to improve, with 50,497 people at relief centres this morning, down from 55,919 last night.

In PAHANG, the number of evacuees came down to 33,876 in seven districts as at 10am today compared to 39,158 last night.   

A spokesman of the Pahang Police flood operations room gave the breakdown of evacuees in the districts as Temerloh (14,270); Pekan (11,030); Bera (2,693); Jerantut (2,510); Maran (2,149); Kuantan (1,115) and Lipis (109).                 

In KELANTAN, the number of evacuees dropped slightly, to 9,175 from 2,208 families this morning from 9,224 from 2,189 families last night.           

The Kelantan National Security Council (NSC) reported that Tanah Merah district had 1,508 evacuees; Kuala Krai, 3,094; Machang, 2,419 and Gua Musang, 2,154).

In PERAK, the number of evacuees dropped to 6,194 (from 1,703 families) this morning compared to 6,412 (1,751 families) yesterday.         

A spokesman of the Perak NSC said the number of evacuees in the Perak Tengah district was 4,851; Kuala Kangsar, 251; Hulu Perak, 648; Hilir Perak, 289 and Manjung, 155.       

In SABAH, there was a slight increase in the number of evacuees, to 1,150 this morning from 1,023 last night.     

The Sabah Disaster operations control centre said 909 people from 254 families had been moved out of their homes in the Kudat district, 221 in Pitas and 20 in Kota Belud.                

In JOHOR, the number of evacuees remained unchanged at 58 this morning, while in TERENGGANU, only 44 people from 11 families were being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Durian Mentangau in Dungun.  — Bernama
