GEORGE TOWN, Dec 11 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has assured visitors and investors that Penang remains a safe haven as the police are actively solving the recent spate of gruesome murders involving Myanmar nationals.

Responding to concerns over the 18 murders, including gruesome discoveries of dismembered bodies, he said the violence has been limited to Myanmar nationals.

He pointed out that these are cases of revenge, as revealed by the police, between the Myanmar nationals brought here from their country.

“I am not discounting the seriousness of these cases as it involved human lives but I want to state that these cases do not involve locals so the locals are not threatened or have been threatened by any foreign workers here,” he told a press conference.

The Penang lawmaker said there is no need for locals, tourists and investors to worry or be overly concerned over these murders.

Lim is confident that the police will solve the case and nab those responsible.

He said 12 of the suspects have admitted to nine of the deaths and that police are now tracking down another group believed to be involved in the murders.
