KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — Malaysian police announced yesterday that they have detained another three men in Kuala Lumpur and Kedah with suspected links to militant Islamist group the Islamic State.

Police said one of the suspects, a 36-year old male, allegedly joined the militant group in Syria on December 28 last year, before returning to Malaysia on April 8.

The other two suspects, both civil servants in their 20s, are suspected of providing funds to other Malaysians interested in travelling to Syria to join the Islamic state.

The arrests bring the total number of people held over suspected links to militant groups this year to 43.
