KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — The success of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on being awarded the 54th best university in the world in agricultural science proves local universities can compete at the highest level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said with the recognition, local universities were not only capable of competing in Asia but at the global level.
“Congratulations to UPM on being awarded the 54th best university in the world in agricultural science by US News and World Report in their listing of the best global universities,” he said on his blog site, www.najibrazak.com today.
Najib said UPM was listed as the best university in Southeast Asia and the seventh best in Asia in agricultural science.
According to a UPM statement, the recognition focused on overall institutional research, global and regional reputation as well as research performance using indicators such as publications, academic staff and the number of doctorate (PhD) holders.
UPM also maintained its best achievements in the QS World University Ranking after being listed in the top 100 universities in the world two years consecutively in agriculture, forestry and education. — Bernama
