PETALING JAYA, Aug 12 — PAS state executive councillors in Selangor were asked today to boycott tomorrow’s meeting with mentri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to show solidarity with their six sacked counterparts from PKR and DAP.

According to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, he has asked his PAS counterpart Datuk Mustafa Ali to instruct the four PAS excos to do so.

“On behalf of the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government, I have contacted Mustafa to ask him to convey the message to PAS’ leadership,” Lim told reporters in a hastily convened press conference at the PKR headquarters here.

“We ask as a show of solidarity with the six DAP and PKR excos who were sacked, for their excos to not attend the exco meeting tomorrow.”

Khalid said earlier today he had sacked all six state executive councillors from PKR and DAP, purportedly for refusing to cooperate with him as Selangor mentri besar.

He said the Selangor Sultan had given his consent on the matter, and that official letters have been sent to five out of six state executive councillors this evening.

Lim insisted today that the two parties felt that the sacking was unethical, disrespectful of democracy, and made mockery of the mandate that was given by voters to PR in the last polls.

“Khalid must remember that he became MB thanks to the support of PR, which is made of the three parties.

“He didn’t become MB solely because of his name, he became one because his name represented PR,” added Lim.

The Penang chief minister also refuted Khalid’s claim that he has the support of the majority of the state assembly.

Even if Khalid does have PAS and Umno’s backing, this would only mean he has the support of 28 of Selangor’s 56 assemblymen, which does not constitute a majority, Lim explained.

Apart from Lim, tonight’s press conference was also attended by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

Yesterday, Khalid challenged the six DAP and PKR exco members to resign if they no longer support his leadership, insisting the Selangor constitution allows him to run the state with only four exco members. He also asked the lawmakers to meet with him this morning to discuss the matter but the invitation was turned down.

Earlier today, PAS’s four exco members said they too will remain in office under MB Khalid until, and unless, their party decides otherwise during its leadership meeting this August 17.

PKR’s disciplinary committee expelled Khalid from the party last week for his open defiance of the party’s decision that he must step down to make way for PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The embattled mentri besar’s sacking leaves PR in a precarious state in Selangor, and adds to worries that snap polls may have to be called to ward off a stalemate.
