KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — The Shariah High Court here today ordered Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim, who is the husband of Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar to file his defence statement and counter claim to challenge his wife’s application for custody of their two children.

Shariah judge Amran Mat Zain made the order in chambers after lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais, representing Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar, objected to the claims made by Nurul Izzah.

Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar was given until Aug 27 to do so.

Today the matter was fixed for appointment of Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar’s lawyer.

According to Azmi, his client was present during the proceeding for the appointment of the lawyer, but had to leave early because he was not well.

Nurul Izzah was not at the court today. She was represented by lawyer Nor Mawaddah Ramli.

Last April 30, Nurul Izzah filed her application to be given custody of the children, a daughter, aged seven, and a son, aged four.

The application was made under Section 81 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.

She is also seeking a divorce from Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar and the matter was still pending at the court.
