IPOH, April 18 — Paloh assemblyman Datuk Nozula Mat Diah was slightly hurt while his wife Datin Maziah Din was killed in an accident at KM23 Jalan Cameron Highlands-Simpang Pulai near here at about 6.30pm yesterday.

Ipoh police chief Sum Chang Keong said also in the car were the couple’s three children, a daughter and two sons, aged 23, 16 and nine, and a two-year-old nephew.

He said the car was driven by the daughter.

He said Nozula and the children who also sustained light injuries were being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here while his wife’s body was sent to the mortuary of the same hospital for a port-mortem.

“Based on the information we received, their Nissan Murano sports utility vehicle was believed to have skidded and ploughed into an embankment before ending up in a drain,” he told reporters at the hospital.

Sum said the Kelantan assemblyman was travelling in a two-vehicle convoy, the other being a Toyota Harrrier, and that the entourage was heading to Ipoh from Kelantan for a holiday.

“Maziah died while on the way to the hospital,” he said.

Sum said Nozula was injured in the ribs and was stable but in a semi-conscious state.

“All the victims are receiving treatment and are still tramautised,” he added.

Maziah’s remains are expected to be brought to Gua Musang in the morning. — Bernama
