PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 — The Federal Court here today upheld the conviction and death sentence of a woman and her boyfriend for the murder of International Islamic College student Juliana Md Fuzi six years ago. A five-ember panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria dismissed the final appeals brought by Noralina Ahmad Dasuki and Muhammad Khairul Anuar Abdullah against a High Court’s decision which had found them guilty for the murder and sentenced them to death.
“We unanimously find that there are overwhelming evidence to support their convictions,” said Justice Arifin.
Also presiding on the panel with Justice Arifin were Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum, Datuk Hasan Lah, Datuk Seri Mohamed Apandi Ali and Datuk Ramly Ali.
Noralina, 26, a former student of the Advanced Management and Technology Centre in Shah Alam, and Muhammad Khairul, 31, a former cable TV station worker, were found guilty of killing Juliana, 20, who was Noralina’s friend, at a unit in Sunrise Apartment, Wisma Indah, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur and sentenced to death by the High Court on July 14, 2009.
They committed the offence between 10pm on March 23, 2007 and 8pm, the following day.
Noralina and Muhammad Khairul lost their appeals at the Court of Appeal which dismissed their appeals on April 30, last year.
Juliana’s body was found face down on the room floor, with her hands bound to the back with a cable, and another cable tied around her neck.
The post-mortem conducted by forensics pathologist Dr Mohamed Swarhib @ Aung Thu Ya found that the cause of Juliana’s death was strangulation by ligature.
Noralina was represented by Karpal Singh and Sangeet Kaur Deo while Muhammad Khairul was represented by lawyer Geethan Ram Vincent. DPP Nurul Huda Noraini Mohamed Noor appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama
