YAN, Nov 4 — Police have installed close-circuit cameras in five hot spots to enable them to carry out effective monitoring and take swift action in case of undesired incidents breaking out on polling day in the by-election for the Sungai Limau state constituency today.
Kedah Chief Police Officer Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said police were also carrying out close monitoring and maintained tight security to ensure there was no untoward incidents during polling and vote counting.
Ahmad said police began to mobilise their personnel as early as 6.30am to provide security and control traffic at all the 17 polling centres.
“We assigned our personnel at all the 17 voting centres and 58 streams to ensure that the polling process runs smoothly. We have also assigned senior ranking police officers at the 17 polling centres to monitor the situation,” he said at a media conference at the Media Centre, at the Yan District Police Headquarters, here today.
“For the Sungai Limau by-election today, we increased our manpower by four times compared to the general election on May 13,” he added.
The Sungai Limau by-election today is a straight fight between the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim and Mohd Azam Abd Samat from PAS. — Bernama
