KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — India has allegedly been used by drug smugglers as a gateway to Malaysia by courier service or using drug mules to take them to smaller airports instead of the KL International Airport (KLIA).
Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said in the latest incident, syabu weighing 2.99kg was found concealed in a carry-on bag carried by a Vietnamese man arriving from India at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport, Kuantan on Friday.
The police seized 204,200 Vietnamese dong and 1,650 Indian rupees from the suspect who was arrested at 7.55pm upon arrival from Delhi with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur, he told a news conference here today.
Noor Rashid said the police also seized a bag containing 3.1kg of syabu left unclaimed by a passenger on a Chennai-Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan flight at 10.13pm and were looking for its owner.
The syndicates have turned to smaller airports as they assumed that checks there will not be as rigorous as the KLIA, he said, adding that from there the drugs would be taken by road to Kuala Lumpur before being sent to a third countries.
Meanwhile, Noor Rashid said the police busted a local drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of two men and a woman and seizure of 501g of syabu from a car in Jalan Rimbunan, Kepong last Thursday.
He said the police also found two pistols, 12 rounds of ammunition, jewellery and RM263,841 cash on the suspects.
The total value of syabu seized was about RM1.3 million and the four suspects arrested aged between 25 and 31, he added. — Bernama
