KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Malaysia’s “diversity, tolerance and progress” can be a model to the world, US President Barack Obama said today.
Obama also said that the US, in partnership with Up Global, a world non-profit group for entrepreneurs, will support 500,000 new entrepreneurs around the world.
“Malaysia’s diversity, tolerance and progress can be a model to countries around the world,” the American president said in a video that was screened to delegates at the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2013 here today.
“As I’ve told Prime Minister Najib, I look forward to visiting Malaysia in the future as we continue to deepen the partnership between our two great nations,” he added.
The US government was represented by Secretary of State John Kerry at the event today, as a government shutdown had forced Obama to cancel his trip here and to other Asian countries.
Obama also stressed today that entrepreneurship, whether in “Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait or Kansas City” could lead to prosperity and progress in the world.
“When you’re free to have your own ideas, pursue your dreams, start your own businesses, serve your communities, it isn’t just good for your nations, it means more prosperity and progress for us all,” he said.
Obama added that in the US collaboration with Up Global, America’s successful business leaders would mentor young entrepreneurs.
“A new research network will equip governments with proven tools to help entrepreneurs succeed, and we’ll continue to expand the partnerships in exchange to help entrepreneurs like you learn from each other and turn your ideas into reality,” he said.
“Those of you there today, you’re risk-takers and dreamers...the United States of America wants to be your partner. We want you to succeed,” added Obama.
Kerry also said in a speech at the event today that the US collaboration with Up Global will aid Malaysian entrepreneurs, among others.
