KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Controversial sex bloggers “Alvivi” did not violate the conditions of their bail by posting a new video on the Internet as the content of the clip did not touch on racial or religious sensitivities, their lawyer Chong Joo Tian asserted today.
Chong said the court order was clear in that they were only prohibited from posting content that could stir racial or religious sentiments, which was part of the restrictions for their bail.
“So long as the video does not touch on such sensitive issues, they will not run foul of the bail conditions,” Chong was quoted as saying by The Star on its website today.
Alvivi — comprising Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee — uploaded a video on Wednesday in which Lee is seen lamenting over what is believed to be their current predicament. The video ended with a scene showing Lee about to slit her wrist before the screen abruptly blacked out.
Last July, the couple was charged in the Sessions Court on two counts for uploading a picture on their Facebook page during the recent Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan, depicting them wishing Muslims a happy breaking of fast while they feasted on the pork dish Bak Kut Teh.
They are also charged on one count of uploading pornographic material on the Internet.
The couple, who made headlines after their sex blog went viral, pleaded not guilty to all three charges, and spent eight days in jail after they were initially denied bail.
High Court Judge Mohd Azman Husin, however, decided to allow Tan and Lee to be released on RM30,000 bail with two sureties each.
However, their release came with the condition that they are not allowed to upload materials or use mobile devices to upload materials that are provocative, pornographic, obscene or touch on religious and racial issues.
Both Tan and Lee are also required to report to the nearest police station on the first of every month.
Their next court date has been set for October 31, when the High Court hears their application to quash one charge under the Penal Code for allegedly ridiculing Muslims and Ramadhan.
