KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Bukit Aman’s (Federal Police’s) Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (JSJK) apprehended 20 individuals, including an Indonesian, for pirated VCD/DVD sales, fraud and breach of trust in three states since last Wednesday.

JSJK Deputy Director II Datuk Rodwan Yusof said the department, which began Ops Cantas JSJK on Sept 26, also confiscated illegal VCD/DVDs, imitation pills and medicine contraband cigarette cartons worth thousands of ringgit in the capital, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

“In Kuala Lumpur we seized 11,106 VCDs and DVDs, 300 DVD covers, 34,729 packets of various types of medicine (376,765 pills), 915 bottles of pills and liquid medicine, RM3,100 in cash and 450 cartons of Modeng cigarettes worth over RM300,000,” he told a news conference here today.

He said they also detained two Bangladeshi men, aged 23 and 33, after raiding a DVD/VCD storage premises in Jalan Ipoh, Sentul last Wednesday.

In Selangor, Rodwan said police arrested four men including an Indonesian and seized 919 smut DVD/VCD, 10,258 DVD/VCDs which had no B certificate and RM635 at five premises around Subang Jaya and Puchong, yesterday.

According to Rodwan, besides identifying and arresting suspects involved in DVD/VCD sales, Ops Cantas JSJK also tracked down suspects involved in fraud and breach of trust cases.

“Last Wednesday, 14 suspects were detained in Negri Sembilan which resulted in 17 cases being solved. The suspects were charged for offences under the Film Censorship Act, criminal breach of trust, possession of smut VCD/DVD and fraud cases,” he said.

Rodwan said the suspects, including a woman aged between 20 and 50, were issued arrest warrants by the court but failed to attend court for the charges. — Bernama
