KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 — National Laureate Datuk A Samad Said is just trying to capture public attention with his antics, such as by waving a flag other than the Jalur Gemilang in the eve of Merdeka Day recently, Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said.

In fact, he said the national laureate would do almost anything to get the public to give their attention to him.

“Like a child who longs for love and attention, he will do all kinds of antics in the hope that his parents will give their attention to him, or even get angry with him. It’s just unfortunate that such antics are done by a national laureate,” he told reporters after launching a short film script writing competition here today.

On the playing of the national anthem, Negaraku, in cinemas, the minister said he was satisfied with the commitment showed by all quarters and hoped that it would be repeated on Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16.

The script writing competition is organised by Anext Star Production with cooperation from the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) with the aim of scouting new talents in film production.

The deadline for entry submission for the competition is November 15. — Bernama
