SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — Police detained six members of the 'Puput' gang, believed to be actively involved in burglary cases, in several locations here, throughout the year.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Zahedi Ayob said the suspects, aged between 22 and 29, were arrested at their rented houses in two locations, namely Kampung Baru Subang and Denai Alam, here.
"The suspects were detained in three separate raids. In the first raid on Aug 30, three suspects were arrested at 12am in Kampung Baru Subang. Three hours later another suspect was arrested at the same place.
"Two suspects were arrested in Denai Alam last Saturday about 4.30am. Police recovered stolen goods worth RM50,000," he said in a press release, here, today.
He said among the seized items were several branded watches of various make, mobile phones, LCD television sets and various women's accessories.
"The group is called gang 'Puput' as their boss, a man in his 30s, is called Puput. At the moment we are looking for other suspects who are still at large in the state," he said adding that all the detained suspects tested positive for drugs.
Zahedi said with the arrest of the six suspects police believe they have solved 10 cases while the suspects would be remanded from the date of arrest until Monday.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, police arrested four men involved in fights and secret societies, here.
Zahedi said the four had previously been arrested for their involvement in a brawl at Section 25, here in 2010, but were released by the court because there was no evidence to convict them.
"Following 'Ops Cantas' we have taken proactive measures to detect gangster groups and they are now detained under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1957.
"In addition to the four, another suspect who is currently in prison for the offence of inflicting grievous injuries was also arrested under the same Act," he said. — Bernama
