ST PETERSBURG, June 13 — Gosha Rubchinsky’s all-check SS18 collaboration with the storied English label takes us right back into the footballer/WAG-centric fashion times of the late 1990s to early 2000s. We take a look at the latest menswear revival to hit Russia and beyond, following Friday’s runway show in St Petersburg.

Key pieces from the eight silhouette-strong collaboration, shown at the Russian designers Spring/Summer 2018 show, include decidedly normcore spin on the iconic Burberry trench coat and signature outerwear styles.

Football was a huge inspiration for Gosha, the multi-faceted Russian photographer and video artist, who based the collection on the next World Cup, which Russia is due to host in one year’s time.

Style frontiers collide as a working-class sporty polo shirt and trackie bottoms ensemble is given a chic touch, paired with a two-toned trench, featuring a striking Burberry check lining.

Reimagined in oversized shapes, bomber jackets and lightweight overcoats create a contemporary look that is firmly rooted in Burberry’s heritage. A peek of linear check here, a flash of lined collar detailing there...

All-over check shirts, shorts and hats co-designed with British milliner Stephen Jones complete the collection and offer diehard Burberry check fans the possibility of a maximalist head-to-toe look.

If you are champing at the bit to own a piece of Gosha’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, you’ll have to hang onto your check caps, as the collection retails in January 2018.

It is fair to say that the Russian design star is enjoying a moment. Along with other cool labels Off/White and Vetements, Gosha is bringing avant-garde fashion to the fore.
