SINGAPORE, March 26 — The next time you’re transiting in Changi Airport and looking for an affordable place to eat, head to one of the aviation hub’s two staff canteens.
According to CNN, smart travellers have long known about the no-frills facilities and their cheap and authentic meals.
The best part is: All meals cost between S$2 (RM6) and S$5.
Halal, vegetarian, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, Malay, Cantonese, Taiwanese, Western and local Singaporean cuisine are all on offer, the report added.
Apparently, the most popular dishes are the roti prata, Taiwanese hot pot mackerel, nasi padang and fried Hokkien prawn mee.
While open to the public, the staff canteens are not listed on the airport’s food directories, but, of course, CNN were kind enough to offer directions.
To find the Terminal 1 canteen, “follow the signs for the restrooms (you’re looking for the ones with the red doors), then take the nearest lift down to basement 1. When you arrive turn right, and the canteen will be in front of you.”
This staff canteen is the larger of the two and has more than 25 stalls. Its opening hours are from 7am to 8pm.
For the Terminal 2 canteen, “locate Starbucks on level two and take the nearest lift to the car park at level 3. From here, walk up the staircase, turn left and look for the unlabelled iron door.” CNN did not state its opening hours.
Also, keep an eye out for “Staff Canteen” signs dotted around Terminals 1 and 2.
