SINGAPORE, Aug 9 — Singapore is gearing to host the star-studded 2014 World Architecture Festival (WAF) in October.
Under the theme of “Architects and the city”, the three-day festival will encompass talks and keynote speeches from some of the industry’s biggest talents.
The focus will be on the relationship between architecture and the socio-economic and political balance of cities.
Drawing inspiration from its glamorous location, the festival kicks off with a talk entitled “1000 Singapores: lessons from a city state”.
Additional talks such as “Is ‘iconic’ architecture out of control?” and “The Future of Cities” will throw the spotlight on the future of urban development.
Speakers include the founding principal of Rocco Design Associates, Rocco Yim; Sergey Kuznetsov, the chief architect of Moscow; and the executive director of the New York Regional Planning Association, Thomas Wright.
The festival includes a prestigious live awards ceremony, with shortlisted projects this year including buildings designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster+Partners and Mecanoo.
WAF will run from October 1-3. — AFP-Relaxnews
