NEW YORK, Feb 6 — Artist Daniel Popper features in a new short film from denim brand G-Star RAW exploring the Cape Town-based artist’s work, including his most recent project, “The Nelson Mandela Tree of Wisdom,” a sculpture celebrating the life of the great South African statesman.
The four-storey-high sculpture was created for the Nelson Mandela School for Science and Technology and features inscriptions of some of the late statesman’s sayings.
“The sculpture represents the knowledge and wisdom of our most important leader and what is possible when the human imagination and technology come together,” explains Popper.
The video also explores some of the influences behind his work, the recyling centres where he finds salvaged items used for his installations, and the ateliers where he puts them together. — AFP-Relaxnews
