LONDON, July 1 — A ranking of the biggest spirits brands in the world is dominated by Asian brands, with eight of the top 10 companies described as “supergiants” that sell predominantly to their local markets.
While Korean spirits brand Jinro Soju has maintained its stronghold as the largest spirits brand in the world, there’s a new No 2 in town in the International Wine & Spirits Research ranking.
Philippines-based Emperador brandy outsold Thai spirit Ruang Khao in 2013, to take the second spot.
But at 31.9 million cases, Emperador still falls significantly short of the 65.6 million 9-litre cases that Jinro sold in the same year.
The newest report also found that Indian whisky brands Officer’s Choice and McDowell’s saw the most growth in 2013. Officer’s Choice is the world’s best-selling whisky and grew 29 per cent last year, while McDowell’s grew 20 per cent.
Here are the top 10 spirits brands for 2013:
1. Jinro Soju, Korea, soju
