KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — With its humble beginnings as Maria’s Cafe 26 years ago in Ipoh offering homemade pies, pastries and cakes, Maria’s SteakCafe has spread its wings with outlets in Suria KLCC, Bangsar and Sunway.

On every plate, there’s history; from their Spaghetti Bolognaise, the slow cooked Oxtail Soup to steaks with their signature seasoning topped with crispy onion strings.

It’s much more than just a great meal as they pride themselves on creating feel good moments for their diners.

Newer creations stand side-by-side with the classic dishes, such as a Mediterranean menu, Beef Wellington and Sizzling Porterhouse.

Lovers of quality protein will be happy with their selection of halal-certified meat that lets you globetrot on your plate, from Australia, Argentina, Japan and even South Korea.

In the beginning, steaks weren’t on the horizon and the cafe was built from a love for baking and serving comforting, home-style food crafted from family recipes.

In 2007, Maria’s Restaurant & Café opened in Damansara Perdana – their first foray into the Klang Valley – with Western dishes and gourmet coffee.

Diners fell for the taste of their steaks made extra special with their signature seasoning and travelled from afar to indulge in the juicy, tender meat.

That overwhelming love for their steaks saw them pivot to focus on steaks, as they extended their footprint to Bangsar in 2014 as Maria’s SteakCafe, eventually opening in Sunway and Suria KLCC.

Steak lovers can take their taste buds to Korea with the coveted MiGyeongSan Hanwoo 1++, with the highest grade of marbling in Korea.

Korea’s finest beef, farmed from young female cows that have not given birth or been milked before, is usually reserved for the domestic market but a limited amount is now made available in Malaysia.

Usually served in slices at Korean restaurants, Maria’s SteakCafe is one of the exclusive places that offer it in its full glory as a whole steak.

Your order of MiGyeongSan Hanwoo 1++ Striploin (RM320++ per 100 grams) is a beautifully tender bite with a richer beef flavour.

For those more inclined towards Japanese Wagyu, Maria’s SteakCafe also offers a selection of Kobe A5 Wagyu and Wagyu A5 Miyazaki too.

As every steak aficionado knows, beef takes on different flavours from each country so try out their tasting platters that offer a taste of different countries, from Japan, Korea and Australia.

On the menu, there’s also another platter giving you a taste of Australia’s different cuts.

Sizzling steaks are all about the sound of that alluring sizzle, tempting you to dig into your steak drenched with gravy.

Maria’s SteakCafe upped their sizzling steak game with their Sizzling Wagyu Marbling 7 Porterhouse (RM100++ per 100 grams) with clarified brown butter.

Brown butter is every cook’s secret weapon as once melted and toasted, it adds a bold nutty flavour to anything it touches, including a beautiful piece of chargrilled steak.

The steak with its charred golden crust is made richer and juicier with the brown butter allowing you to enjoy each bite without any sauce.

Your choice of steak can also be paired with steak fries with unlimited free refill or a choice of mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes together with wild rocket salad, sautéed vegetables or creamed spinach.

Not a fan of beef or looking for something different? There’s also New Zealand Lamb Cutlets (RM108) using free range lamb with a delicate sweetness minus any dreaded gamey taste.

You probably won’t even need that mint sauce on the side so relish each piece of the juicy cutlet without fear.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Seafood (RM29) seems like a super simple pasta dish to cook up with just a few ingredients: oil, garlic, chillies and seafood.

In the hands of the experts at Maria’s SteakCafe, what’s simple can be converted into a pasta dish brimming with flavour, like this version that cleverly uses finely chopped garlic cooked in oil to infuse it with a richer garlic aroma.

Combine it with al dente strands with a generous sprinkle of chilli flakes, fresh prawns, mussels, salmon and squid for a winning dish you will want to order again.

There’s also an option to swap out the seafood for vegetables or just omit it for a plain version of the pasta dish.

Build a complete meal here with their starters, like the New Zealand Spicy Mussels and Fresh Oxtail Soup.

New Zealand Spicy Mussels (RM39) uses plump green shell mussels, served with a Sicilian inspired sauce infused with garlic, herbs and a touch of spiciness, which is perfect with their fluffy Garlic Bread.

Or opt for a Maria’s SteakCafe classic in the form of their Fresh Oxtail Soup (RM32), slowly cooked for six hours with aromatic spices that offer a local slant.

Savour the thick collagen-rich soup with the succulent meat easily removed from the bone, together with the soft, fragrant Garlic Bread.
