BERLIN, April 26 — German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock today said Iran’s decision to uphold a death sentence on dual Iranian-German citizen Jamshid Sharmahd was “unacceptable” and that Sharmahd was not given a fair trial.
In a tweet, Baerbock said Germany’s ambassador to Tehran had broken off a business trip and rushed back to the Iranian capital to intervene.
The Islamic Republic’s hardline judiciary handed down the death penalty against Sharmahd in February after convicting him of heading a pro-monarchist group accused of a deadly 2008 bombing and planning other attacks in the country. — Reuters
