LAS VEGAS, June 1 ― Sin City holds can claim bragging rights to being the most popular travel destination among users of Expedia since the travel site launched 20 years ago.
After combing through two decades worth of data, analysts at the popular travel service gleaned a few travel trends about their American users.
While Las Vegas is the most popular destination overall on their site, Cancun, Mexico is the top international destination.
More people have flown out of New York City than any other American city when booking with Expedia, while the most popular domestic route is Los Angeles (LAX) to New York (JFK).
And over the last decade, the destinations with the greatest number of hotel bookings sold on the site are Las Vegas, Orlando, New York, Los Angeles and San Diego.
These are among some of the trends highlighted in an anniversary report meant to fete the company's 20th anniversary this year.
Expedia.com began as a division of Microsoft in 1996 and today claims to average a booking on its site every other second.
The most complex single itinerary involved a 14-stage trip spanning 80 days, departing from Budapest and ending in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Another travel site, Cheapflights also released stats about their traffic recently and found that Manila, Philippines was the most-searched destination for their Canadian users.
Travelers will also be able to reap the benefits of Expedia's anniversary with 20 per cent discounts that will be applied to hotels and holiday packages throughout the summer. The promotion kicks off May 31 and runs until August 2. ― AFP-Relaxnews
