TOKYO, July 3 — The National Library (PNM) uses books as a medium to introduce edutourism to attract foreign tourists to Malaysia.
Its director Maizan Ismail said the PNM had many documents of cultural heritage which could attract researchers.
“Reading materials which depict the arts and culture of the Malaysian people can attract foreign tourists specifically the Japanese and these materials could be a tourism product.
“Book exhibitions and festivals such as these could help promote Malaysia among foreign tourists who would go to Malaysia to see for themselves the unique culture of our country,” she said here today.
She was speaking to reporters at her booth at the Malaysian Pavilion at the Tokyo Big Sight in conjunction with the 21st Tokyo International Book Festival in Japan.
The four-day book festival held from July 2 to 5 sees the participation of 20 local companies which brought 1,500 book titles.
“Among the books which we (PNM) brought are those on batik making, handicrafts, shadow play and Malay manuscripts, which are reading materials liked by the Japanese,” she said. — Bernama
