KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is expected to be given an easy passage to the quarter-finals of the BMW Malaysian Open at the Royal Selangor Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur this week.

The World No. 5 will start the tournament against a qualifier in the first round tomorrow.

Then, Wozniacki will play either Lin Zhu of China or a qualifying wild card for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Second seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany will have to be at the top of her game as she will be facing Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania in the first round.

Third seed Casey Dellacqua of Australia begins her challenge in the tournament against Hsieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s wildcard entry to the main draw, Jawairiah Noordin begins her challenge in the tournament by taking on Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan.

Jawairiah was both upbeat and positive about competing in this year’s tournament.

“I will fight and give my very best as I am ready and raring to go. While other players might see the hot and humid weather as a challenge, I look forward to playing under such conditions as I am used to playing in hot weather conditions and I revel in it,” said Jawariah.

Jawairiah will be partnering fellow Malaysian Theiviya Selvarajoo to keep the Malaysian flag flying in the doubles event as well where they will take on Han Xinyun of China and Japanese Junri Namigata in the first round. — Bernama
