KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 ― “I’m a bit worried with my studies,” so says Pandelela Rinong, who faces a challenging 2014.

The Malaysian diving princess, a sports science student, is entering her third year at Universiti Malaya in March.

“With that in mind, I have discussions with my lecturers on how to do about things. It’s good that the lecturers understand the position I am in,” said Pandelela.

“They are willing to help in whatever they can.

“I hope things will be OK when it comes to dividing between studies and diving assignments. Let’s pray.”

Pandelela, 20, turned into an instant darling for Malaysians by winning a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the 10m platform individual.

This was the first time a woman athlete had won an Olympics medal. It was also the first time that Malaysia had won a medal besides badminton.

“Despite the tight and hectic schedules this year, I am ready for the challenges ahead and hope to make this year memorable,” said Pandelela, who is training hard as usual.

“I aim to deliver, no matter what.”

Pandelela’s first major assignment is the World Series which starts on March 6 to be held in six stations — China, United Arab Emirates, Canada, England, Russia and Mexico.

Then comes the World Cup in Shanghai on July 15-20.

And just five days later, she will be diving for honours at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

At the last Games in New Delhi four years ago, Pandelela won a gold in the 10m platform and silver in the 10m synchro platform.

The Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea will come next for her on September 19 to October 4.

At the last Games in Guangzhou, China,  four years ago, Pandelela won a silver in the 10m synchro platform and bronze in the 10m platform.

Pandelela is still an avid fan of K-pop and spends the little time she has to enjoy it, especially hits by G-Dragon and dancing to the tunes at times.
