KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — In another sharp-worded order, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has chided the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for allegedly not admitting its mistake and accepting criticism over the discovery of a pistol and bullets at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Khairy said he was disappointed that the FAM regarded the discovery of a loaded Browning pistol with seven bullets in a toilet at the stadium during the Malaysia Cup final on November 3 as an isolated incident.
He said his criticism against the FAM security committee was over its way of handling the issue as it involved the safety of football fans.
“Does it mean that FAM has immunity (from criticisms) that it cannot be reprimanded by the youth and sports minister. I gave my criticism out of love for football,” he said.
He was commenting on FAM committee member Datuk Jamal Nasir Ismail's remarks that he (Khairy) had a grudge against the FAM which explained his penchant for finding faults with the sports body.
Khairy said he was not interfering in the FAM affairs, but he was doing his duty as a minister although it would be better for him to focus on other sports.
In another development, Khairy asked the Malaysian Taekwondo Association to apply for funds from the ministry to install additional equipment to the protector and scoring system to improve its quality of umpiring. — Bernama
