LOS ANGELES, April 5 — Erik Bauersfeld, the actor who gave his voice to the Star Wars character, Admiral Ackbar, has died.

His manager, Derek Maki, told the Associated Press that the 93-year-old actor died on Sunday at his home in Berkeley, California.

“Actor Erik Bauersfeld, known by Star Wars fans around globe as the voice of Admiral Ackbar, has passed away,” USA TODAY quoted a statement from Coolwaters Productions as saying.

“His passing comes at the age of 93 and the cause was natural causes. Erik will be deeply missed by his family here at Coolwaters and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

The veteran voice actor and radio drama producer will be best remembered voicing the amphibious Admiral Ackbar, foremost military commander of the Rebel Alliance, in the Star Wars saga.

He entered Star Wars lore when he turned three words from a minor acting role — “It’s a trap!” — into one of the most beloved lines of the Star Wars series. It is now a popular Internet meme.

Bauersfeld ended up voicing the roles of both the rebellion’s Admiral Ackbar and Jabba the Hutt’s evil assistant Bib Fortuna in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Admiral Ackbar also appeared in The Force Awakens.
