LOS ANGELES, Nov 14 — Actor Rob Lowe has come under fire on social media after posting several questionable tweets on Twitter today following the attacks on Paris last night.
The actor first tweeted this message:
Vive La France! #Paris
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) November 13, 2015But soon after, he derided France’s President Francois Hollande’s speech announcing the closing of the border, implying that France would not have been attacked if they had closed their borders to refugees earlier:
Oh, NOW France closes its borders. #Hollande
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) November 13, 2015The 51-year-old actor also derided Hollande’s speech, calling it “the worst ever given.”
This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given. #Hollande
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) November 13, 2015Many Twitter users reacted to his tweets with outrage while others tell him not to be insensitive:
@RobLowe your career has been on a consistent slide since the West Wing, and it's because you're an atrocious human being
— ryan cooper (@ryanlcooper) November 13, 2015 @RobLowe You are making the world worse. Go away.
— Scott Butterworth (@Butterwomp) November 14, 2015 @RobLowe oh come on, Rob. Refugees fleeing to Europe were escaping a whole country filled with this kind of chaos.
— Ian Cardoni (@iancardoni) November 13, 2015The Grinder star went on to post a tweet on The Martian, tweeting “Wait, “The Martian” filmmakers want to win a Golden Globe so badly, they’re entering it as a COMEDY?!! #gross #RidleyScottIsAlwaysFunny” before realising the furore he had caused with his earlier remarks.
Lowe backpedalled, posting a new tweet offering prayers for the people of France:
Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love. #FrenchPrayers
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) November 14, 2015However, Twitter users were not convinced, with user Paiement Natalie tweeting, “Oh NOW you feel compassion.”
@RobLowe your publicist is doing a great cover up job for you! Give them a raise!
— allymulholland (@pussyotoole) November 14, 2015 . @RobLowe you done blaming refugees for this you simple minded twit?
— AKA Young HOT TAEK (@ajs712) November 14, 2015 @RobLowe glad you can find a way to make it about you.
