LOS ANGELES, July 4 — The Korean-American “Hangover” and “Community” actor teams up with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in buddy cop comedy “Ride Along 2,” due January 2016.

Jeong joins an expanding cast that recently added Olivia Munn (“The Newsroom”) to its numbers; Cube and Hart return from the original, as do two of its screenwriters in Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

The first film, released January 2014, had police department recruit Ben (Kevin Hart) attempt to prove his worth to experienced officer James (Ice Cube), his girlfriend’s brother, in order to win his approval.

At the same time, the pair ended up on the trail of a criminal ringleader and got themselves into increasingly dangerous waters.

The film sits on a US$153 million (RM487.1 million) take on a US$25 million budget, despite an unfavourable critical reaction — good bank in a month that had “Wish I Was Here” and “The Raid 2” as relatively high profile comedy and action alternatives, respectively. — AFP-Relaxnews
