KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended lower today as traders trimmed their positions ahead of the weekend amid cautious external environment, dealers said.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed 5.05 points lower at 1,813.37, after moving between 1,813.30 and 1,818.31 throughout the day.

A dealer said traders remained cautious on the development in the Middle East which was disrupting the oil routes.

“Geopolitical tension in Yemen zaps risk taking sentiment,” he said.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index fell 23.63 points to 12,458.65, the FBMT100 Index decreased 23.70 points to 12,147.74 and the FBM Ace eased 1.73 points to 6,972.02.

The FBM Emas Syariah Index went down 34.899 points to 13,030.44 but the FBM 70 increased 12.971 points to 13,381.86.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index and Plantation Index were down 2.37 points each to 3,345.91 and 7,784.12 respectively, and the Finance Index declined 20.19 points to 16,080.56.

Losers edged gainers 391 to 354 with 362 counters unchanged, 678 untraded and 39 others suspended.

Total volume fell to 1.64 billion units worth RM1.82 billion from 2.43 billion units worth RM1.95 billion on Thursday.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata eased one sen each to RM9.21 and RM7.06 respectively, and TNB shed 26 sen to RM14.20.

Public Bank added six sen to RM18.66 and Sime Darby gained three sen to RM9.30.

Of the actively-traded stocks, Ingenuity and Eti Tech earned half-a-sen each to eight sen and 10.5 sen respectively, and Es Ceramics gained 1.5 sen to 32 sen.

Perisai Petroleum lost two sen to 56.5 sen while Privasia was flat at 36.5 sen.

Main Market volume decreased to 1.08 billion shares worth RM1.7 billion from 1.44 billion shares worth RM1.74 billion on Thursday.

Turnover on the ACE Market dwindled to 484.23 million shares valued at RM104.74 million from 825.38 million shares valued at RM182.24 million yesterday.

Warrants contracted to 73.56 million units worth RM11.39 million from 175.13 million units worth RM27.84 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 79.85 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (213.73 million), construction (42.97 million), trade and services (476.92 million), technology (114.78 million), infrastructure (18.37 million), SPAC (12.01 million), finance (36.3 million), hotels (5.78 million), properties (69.81 million), plantations (10.44 million), mining (10,000), REITs (4.58 million) and closed/fund (3,500). — Bernama
