KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia closed higher at the end of the afternoon session today as investors across the region continue to increase their holdings on the back of improved market sentiments, dealers said.

Gains, seen mostly in CIMB and DiGi, pushed the benchmark index 3.92 points higher at 1,772.4, after opening at 1,777.76.

CIMB and DiGi, which contributed a combined 2.501 points to the barometer index’s rise, rose eight sen and 10 sen to RM7.58 and RM4.80, respectively.

Throughout the whole session today, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI hovered between 1,769.75 and 1,779.4.

Across the region, most of the Asian bourses were higher, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gaining 16.58 points to 22,953.72, and Singapore’s Straits Times rose 12.89 points to 3,121.08, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 lost 37.80 points to  14,387.27.

On the local scoreboard, the Industrial Index added 1.3 points to 3,012.04, the Finance Index improved 37.039 points to 16,587.42, and the Plantation Index increased 29.46 points to 8,310.39. 

The FBM Emas Index advanced 30.841 points to 12,285.98, the FBMT100 climbed 28.29 points to 12,038.21, the FBM 70 Index jumped 39.649 points to 13,915.81 and the FBM ACE Index was 21.61 points higher at 5,117.49.

Advancers thumped decliners by 417 to 292, with 326 counters unchanged, 553 untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover eased to 1.458 billion shares worth RM1.753 billion from yesterday’s close at 1.99 billion units worth RM2.227 billion. — Bernama
