KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — The joint venture of BAM International, McConnell Dowell (Macdow) and See Yong & Son (SYS) has reached substantial completion of the jetty for iron ore transport in Lumut, Perak.

BAM International, in a statement here today said, the jetty was built for Vale, a Brazilian mining company.

It said the joint venture had completed the construction of the 1,800-metre long access trestle that stretches like an umbilical cord between the shore and an angle-shaped transfer platform, which finally leads to the import jetty.

The completion was achieved on schedule, it added.

Currently, the team focuses on the construction of the export wharf which is expected to complete by the end of January next year.

The jetty will be used by Vale to offload iron ore from its Brazilian mines, which will then be distributed further into Asia.

BAM International said that Vale’s Malaysian facility would play an important role in consolidating its Asian market position. – Bernama
