PUTRAJAYA, June 8 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today urged Malaysians to report online gambling content and betting websites to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), warning that such activities remain illegal in the country.

Speaking to reporters after the Ministerial Dialogue and Media Roundtable on Safe and Responsible Suicide Reporting at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Fahmi said members of the public play an important role in helping authorities curb the spread of online gambling platforms.

“We know that online gambling is not allowed in our country. Therefore, if MCMC receives complaints, action can be taken,” he said.

“To the public, if you come across links or content related to online gambling, please submit complaints to MCMC so that action can be taken.”

Fahmi’s remarks come just days before the start of the 2026 Fifa World Cup, a period that typically sees a surge in betting activity and the promotion of gambling websites targeting football fans.

The tournament will kick off on June 11 and run until July 19, with matches co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. It will also be the first World Cup to feature an expanded field of 48 teams.

While he did not identify any specific platforms, Fahmi stressed that authorities could act against online gambling content once reports are received.
