KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff said PAS has become the political party with the most defamation losses, attributing this to its tendency to spread misinformation and slander.
The director-general of the Community Communication Department (J-Kom) in the Prime Minister’s Department also said PAS was misusing Islam to intimidate Malaysians against supporting the parties in the national unity government.
He accused PAS of using Islam immorally and intimidating people with their tactics by enticing people not to vote for the unity government.
“As an Islamist party PAS should have good morals not create perceptions or form opinions without evidence. If you disagree, criticize; don’t campaign with elements of slander, racism, insults and elements that contradict Islam,” he said on Facebook.
Mohammad Agus told PAS to compete by offering solutions for the betterment of Malaysia and Malaysians, and not to foster unrest and division through communal politics.
He said that despite purporting to be an Islamist party, PAS was not championing Islam but was instead embarrassing itself and Malaysia with its religious provocation, which he added was discouraging foreign investors from considering the country as a destination.
In his post, he listed several cases in which PAS leaders had to retract their statements. Among them, on February 10, 2023, the Perak PAS Commissioner apologised to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for accusing the prime minister of carrying the LGBT and communist agendas.
On June 25, PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily apologised to Razali Rahman for claiming he was a special advisor to party chairman Lim Guan Eng.
“Ulama’s work calls people to be faithful, far from denial. So set an example for other nations with good morals so that Islam is praised and respected. For the sake of future generations, stop the politics of slander. It’s a dirty and mean political culture. Focus on efforts to build a better Malaysia.
“Finally, my message to the youngsters, reject political slander. Don’t let them use you. Elections are about choosing leaders who can bring our country to the world stage and restore our ailing economy, not appointing a village chief or committee members. For me only Anwar Ibrahim our current prime minister, has the best package to carry this responsibility,” he added.
