PUTRAJAYA, April 4 — Malaysia, through the Ministry of Human Resources, is exploring strategic cooperation with India in alternative medical treatment for the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar, in India for a four-day working visit to India since last Saturday (April 1), said his visit was with the mission of pioneering collaboration in the field of alternative medical treatment for cancer patients between Socso and the Apollo Cancer Centre in Chennai.

“The alternative treatment uses ‘proton’ technology which Socso wants to adopt to support its existing rehabilitation services. Treatment by ‘proton’ technology has no side effects for cancer patients,” he said in a statement today.

He said Socso was also planning to offer neuro-modulation services for the treatment of spinal cord injury, stroke and neurological problems, such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease,” he said, adding that this would be implemented through collaboration with IBS Hospital in New Delhi.

Sivakumar also witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of cooperation between TalentCorp and the National Skills Development Corporation, India, in New Delhi yesterday (April 3) which provides a platform for cooperation in the field of skill enhancement, including TVET. — Bernama
