JOHOR BARU, March 10 — The government has formed a special committee to study issues with implementing the Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar such as reducing food wastage, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh.
She said other issues that will be looked into include lower participation fees, the (Rahmah Menu) menu’s offerings, as well as strategic cooperation in managing the unsold food.
“We will work with local non-governmental organisations (NGO) to manage the unsold food at the various Ramadan bazaar spots to be distributed to the less fortunate.
“The role of the NGO is to distribute this unsold food to families in need. As soon as Maghrib prayer starts, they will distribute the collected food.
“We want the Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar to be truly reflected in its name and we are targeting to provide 50 of the bazaars nationwide,” Fuziah told reporters after officiating the Rahmah Kasih Sayang Food Truck Fiesta at Angsana Mall in Tampoi here today.
She was commenting on the issue of unsold and excess food at bazaars during the fasting month.
Fuziah said the ministry encouraged more Ramadan bazaar organisers to involve themselves in adopting the Ramadan Rahmah Bazaar concept.
She explained that the Ramadan Rahmah Bazaar was not only limited to selling Rahmah Menu items, but also to provide added value to traders and the less fortunate.
Earlier, Local Government Development Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Nasir reportedly said the ministry will hold discussions with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry soon on the setting-up of the Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar throughout the country.
He said that his ministry welcomes the initiative planned by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry which will introduce competitive rental rates for each site in the bazaar.
