KUCHING, Jan 30 — The Sarawak government has allocated RM1.5 billion to the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), said chairman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
A Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report quoted Sagah as saying the funds are for various developments in nine constituencies in the Kuching and Serian divisions.
The nine constituencies are Tanjung Datu, Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Bukit Semuja, and Kedup.
“Ths GKCDA is one of the Sarawak government’s strategies to speed up development in the state, especially involving Kuching and Serian,” he said at the Tarat constituency-level GKCDA Mini Lab on Sunday.
Among those present were GKCDA chief executive officer Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Serian Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah, and Damen Rejek – a political secretary to the Premier.
Sagah, who is also Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister as well as Tarat assemblyman, said the mini lab sought to gather ideas and views in ensuring a more integrated effort for strategic development, particularly in the Tarat area.
According to the Ukas report, the participants of this mini lab included officers from federal and state government departments and agencies, community leaders and village chiefs, as well as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tarat exco members.
Sagah also said the main focus of the mini lab was people-based development with the participants being given the opportunity to suggest projects or programmes that are suitable to be implemented in Tarat.
The lab started an ‘Introduction of Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency’ by Ik Pahon.
This was followed by a discussion session to collect proposals for projects or programmes that can be implemented based on infrastructure development, utilities and telecommunications, agricultural development, economic development (non-agricultural), and social development.
