MELAKA, Dec 19 — The Melaka state government has managed to achieve 95 per cent of the election promises made for the first year of its administration, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

He said the achievement involved 26 initiatives that were monitored through the ‘Melaka Laksana’ system.

“The remaining five per cent is still in the implementation process and God willing, it will be fully achieved in the near future.

“The Melaka state election manifesto includes one goal, five thrusts, and 103 initiatives and its achievement will continue to be monitored according to the promised time period of 100 days, one year, three years and five years in order to lead Melaka to a more glorious future,” he told reporters after a monthly assembly gathering here today.

Sulaiman said one of the initiatives that were successfully achieved during the first year was under thrust two, namely to improve the state’s economy.

He said the state government through the Department of Agriculture had implemented the urban agriculture programme involving 50 communities, and the fertigation programme involving 100 participants from Felcra Dynamic Women’s Association.

“As for the fisheries sector, the state government has allocated RM300,000 to carry out the Deep Sea Recreational Fisheries Study with the aim of increasing the income of the fishermen who can bring recreational anglers to the deep sea, in addition to becoming a benchmark for fish stocks in Melaka waters.

“As for infrastructure, a total of RM1.68 million was spent to upgrade the fishing jetty and RM63,000 was allocated to upgrade farm roads,” he said.

He said in addition, under the third thrust, which involves governance, the proposed amendment to the Melaka Land Rules 1966 to facilitate land transactions was approved.

He said the state government also made improvements such as the standardization of existing Bylaws (UUK) under local authorities to facilitate business license applications.

“In addition, (the achievements) under the ‘Melakaku Maju Jaya 2035 (PSMJ2035)’ strategic plan which comprises 11 flagships also showed a good overall performance this year, with a 94 per cent (implementation rate),” he said. — Bernama
