SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — PKR may seem like it is a “noisy” party as all members are accorded the right to publicly air their grouses, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said tonight.
He was commenting on the many issues raised by different camps within PKR in regard to the party’s controversial election.
“The reason why the party seems noisy is because we are very democratic. We do not sweep things under the carpet or hide any of our problems.
“If the unity within the party is very strong, then we would not be threatened by outsiders,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the PKR Women and Youth wing congress.
Azmin said such openness may appear odd to others as the people have been under the ruling of Umno and Barisan Nasional for far too long.
“Perhaps others see that it is odd because we have been under Umno and Barisan Nasional for so long.
“But in PKR, this is a healthy process. We will emerge stronger after the party elections,” he said.
Earlier in his opening speech, Azmin said unity within the party is the key to oppose external threats
He addressed party members that following the party polls, the party needs to focus on unifying in moving forward.
He also reminded the party to not lose sight of the fight for reformation, despite being part of the ruling coalition.
“Even though we have gained power and position, but this should not distract us from the idealism of our fight for reformation.
“I would like to congratulate over 150,000 PKR members who have fulfilled their democratic responsibility in electing their party leaders.
“It was a tiring process, which was the longest process in the world and what seemed to be a marathon,” he said.
