KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — The Council of Eminent Persons have expressed interest in an Upin & Ipin theme park, the studio behind the popular animation series said today.

Burhanuddin Md Radzi, founder and managing director of Les’ Copaque Production, told reporters he has proposed building a theme park revolving around the characters in the series that has been a hit regionally, especially in Indonesia and Singapore.

He believes there would be a flood of visitors if an Upin & Ipin theme park were constructed here.

“The surge of visitors can generate the tourism and hospitality industry, we can provide jobs and sell of merchandises,” he said after briefing the council led by former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin at Ilham Tower here.

Burhanuddin estimated the theme park to cost between RM700 million and RM1 billion, adding that he did not have sufficient funds to proceed with the project at the moment.
