KEMAMAN, May 15 — Hundreds of bus commuters here have been left in a lurch following the termination of Kemaman shuttle bus service since May 10 after Barisan Nasional lost the parliamentary constituency in the 14th general election (GE14).

Kemaman Amanah vice-head Rizan Ali said PAS which has taken over the state administration should seriously look into the problem as it affected commuting residents and students.

“I would like propose setting up the shuttle bus service in every district and we can use the model of Smart Selangor. In Selangor, each local authority is responsible for maintaining the buses under a town bus concept.

“So in the context of Kemaman, I think it should be carried out. We will start from Kemasik to Chukai as the last stop and also in each state constituency such as Air Puteh, Kemasik and Kijal,” he told reporters at the Kemasik Election Operation Centre here today.

The free Kemaman shuttle bus service which was started by former Kemaman MP, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek was terminated after he lost in GE14 last week.

The bus service which was managed by the Kemaman MP’s office began operation in November last year.

“In Kemaman, we have been without public transport for more than five years. The last time we had regular bus service, if I am not mistaken was in 2000 when a stage bus service was operating (Thong Aik Bus). — Bernama
