TELUK INTAN, April 18 — Residents here could not have been happier when Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today plans to build an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in their town, the third most-populated in Perak.

Housewife Mazriah Ibar, 42, thanked the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman for the UTC, saying it will save people much time and effort when visiting government departments since they will be under one roof.

“UTC is a perfect one-stop centre when it comes to official work. It will make the job easier for the people to do things like renewing identity cards, licences and much more,” she said.

She said that at the moment, the different government departments were located all over the place and people had to travel far to reach them.

J. Raj Mogan, 37, said being able to visit government offices after working hours was a boon.

“With UTC, people don’t have to rush to the government agencies during their lunch hour.

“They can visit after work as they will be operating from 8.30am until 9.30pm,” he said.

Pensioner Hamsani Saruman, 60, sees the UTC as benefitting the town’s small-time entrepreneurs and farmers.

“We are happy to hear the announcement from the prime minister that we will be getting an UTC soon.

“It will allow entrepreneurs and farmers to get more information on how to expand their business and sell their products in a more efficient way,” he said.

Hamsani also suggested the UTC could be a one-stop strategic shop to market, distribute and sell locally made products.

Incumbent Teluk Intan MP Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the UTC for the town was aimed at making life easier for his constituents.

“Now we will find a strategic area that will allow this facility to help as many people as possible,” the BN representative added.
