KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — The Registry of Societies (RoS) has said it stands by the decision to examine complaints and discrepancies within Pakatan Harapan's (PH) component parties before approving its official application.

In a report by the New Straits Times today, it’s director-general Surayati Ibrahim was quoted saying RoS was ready for court action, after PH filed a suit against the agency yesterday.

She added that RoS was empowered by the Societies Act 1966 and that it was within RoS’ rights to defend themselves using the act.

“We are empowered under rules and regulations in the act to investigate all applications, especially in this case, when there are complaints made by grassroots and former members,” she was quoted by the English daily.

Surayati was also reported saying that a court case would be counterproductive to PH as it would delay its registration.

She added that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) registration could have been straightforward if its Youth wing — Armada — was included in the constitution, but she said checks on the matter revealed other issues.
