SHAH ALAM, June 16 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah yesterday received a total of RM11.7 million in business tithe from four companies operating in the state.

Of the total, RM4.7 million were paid by Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (Bank Rakyat) represented by its chairman Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh; RM2.9 million paid by Tenaga Nasional Berhad represented by its State General Manager Datuk Mohd Zahir Md Nor; RM2.5 million paid by Selangor Mentri Besar Incorporated (MBI) represented by its chief executive officer (CEO) Raja Shahren Raja Othman; and RM1.6 million paid by Seriemas Development Sdn Bhd represented by its CEO Mohd Salem Kailany.

At the event held at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque here, Sultan Sharafuddin also presented Aidilfitri aid of RM500 each to 372 asnaf (deserving tithe recipients) comprising the poor, needy and Muslim converts in Petaling district.

The Sultan then joined the congregation in breaking of fast and performing the Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

Also present were Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Datuk Setia Mohamad Adzib Isa, Selangor Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Haris Kasim and Selangor Zakat Board chief executive officer Hussin Mohd Ali. — Bernama
