SIBU, June 15 — A primary school teacher who allegedly sodomised a student over 50 times from August 2015 to May this year has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations, said Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau.

He said the remand order was obtained through the Mukah Magistrate’s Court today and the case was being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code for committing unnatural sexual intercourse.

The teacher, a 42-year-old-widower, was arrested at a primary school in Kapit on Tuesday and taken to the Mukah police headquarters today.

The teacher’s heinous acts were exposed after the 14-year-old victim, a Mukah secondary school student, took the bold step to inform a teacher who then took the victim to lodge a police report on Monday afternoon.

According to Jimmy, initial investigations revealed that the suspect had committed the despicable act over 20 times in the teachers’ quarters and Kapit cheap hotels since the victim was 12 years old.

The victim, who was under extreme pressure, had requested permission from his family to continue his studies at a secondary school in Mukah, he said.

“However, the suspect still contacted the victim and continued to sodomise him over 30 times in a house in Kemuyang, Sibu, last year and a few more times between February and May this year in cheap hotels in Mukah,” he said.

The victim did not report the matter to the police as he feared the suspect but his teacher had noticed a change in his attitude.

“After much persuasion, the victim finally related his ordeal to the teacher who took him to lodge a police report at the Mukah police station, “ he said. — Bernama
