KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Celcom has confirmed that an outage of its voice network at almost all locations nationwide left users unable to make and receive calls today.

At time of writing, the mobile telecommunications operator said via Twitter that the disruption had already been resolved in Peninsular Malaysia, while services should be back to normal in Sabah and Sarawak within the hour.

In the same statement, Celcom said the widespread network outage began at around 7am today.

Data services, however, were unaffected by the outage.

In an earlier statement issued to the media, Celcom said: “Data services seem to be unaffected at the moment. If you need to reach someone urgently, voice over internet protocol (VOIP) calls via WhatsApp or Facetime and others should still work fine.”

It is understood that the outage also affected services such as WeBe, RedOne and Tunetalk that rely on Celcom infrastructure.
