KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh today urged Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to take action against the group who attacked Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong at a recent Ramadan Bazaar in his constituency.

If the assault which went viral over the weekend went unaddressed, it would only encourage even more attacks of such nature in future, Ramkarpal said in a statement to the Inspector-General of Police.

“The incident involving Liew above isn’t merely ‘unnecessary’ as claimed by some. It is downright unlawful and requires punishment. The same applies to the other incidents mentioned above.

“The IGP must act immediately or risk being labelled useless for his inability to address such elementary social ills which will, undoubtedly, tarnish the image of the force irreparably.”

The viral video had depicted Liew and his group being verbally and physically attacked at the Ramadan bazaar in Bandar Baru Kluang, before being chased out eventually.

Police yesterday detained two men in Johor over the incident on Saturday, and are seeking four more suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing harm.
