PETALING JAYA, Dec 15 ― Rides on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) will be free to the public for a period of one month beginning from the first train at 6am tomorrow, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today.

At the launching ceremony of the first phase of MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, Najib said tthis will also extend to the new feeder bus service.

“As a new year's gift to the people as well as to give an opportunity to all the rakyat to try the new, modern and efficient public transport, I want to announce that Rapid Rail will give free MRT service starting tomorrow until January 16, 2017.

“This includes the related feeder bus service. Fares will only be charged starting January 17, 2017,” he said at Kwasa Damansara station today.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd is the subsidiary company of MRT operator, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.

Tomorrow, the gates at the 12 MRT stations will be opened from 6am till 12pm.

The 12 stations are Sungai Buloh, Kampung Selamat, Kwasa Damansara, Kwasa Sentral, Kota Damansara, Surian, Mutiara Damansara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Datuk Ismail, Phileo, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan.

The first phase involves 21km of elevated tracks between the Sungai Buloh and Semantan stations in Bukit Damansara.
