KOTA KINABALU, Oct 17 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) welcomed today former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s new Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) into the Opposition political circle.

PPBM secretary-general Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh also extended a hand of friendship to the Sabah-based party, which it sees as sharing common goals.

“We are certain that Parti Warisan Sabah’s struggle has a good basis and is in line with Parti Primbumi’s mission. We cannot wait to offer a hand and build a bridge of friendship to building a strong and prosperous nation,” the Johor state lawmaker said in a statement.

Shahruddin congratulated Shafie and his comrades for achieving an important milestone in Malaysian politics with the multi-cultural party in Sabah.

Earlier today, Shafie who is Semporna MP announced that the Registrar of Societies had approved a name change for his new party previously called Parti Pembangunan Warisan Sabah, the new logo as well as the interim committee.

Shafie who is party president, also officially announced Penampang MP Darrell Leiking as his deputy, and his three vice-presidents: Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, Likas assemblyman Junz Wong and Kadazan Dusun Murut Malaysia president Datuk Peter Anthony.

Shafie said that his party aimed to take over the state government of Sabah from the Barisan Nasional coalition and is open to working with any party with the same intentions.
